Academic and Arts-Based Learning

Don Bosco Learning Center

Boys and Girls Club members receive after school academic assistance and homework help through The Learning Center. In collaboration with area High Schools and Colleges, student interns provide one-on-one support and encouragement to youth to complete their homework and other assignments, including use of the computer lab to complete PowerPoint assignments. Since many of our members are with us until 7:30 PM, the Learning Center supports working families by ensuring their children’s schoolwork is done with excellence.

SER Stars Academy at Don Bosco

SER Stars Academy is a new partnership with Don Bosco to provide academic support across content areas of Middle School students. In addition to teacher supervised classrooms, students have access to the Cashin-Niehaus Technology Center and Media Lab to complete homework assignments involving online research and Power Point presentation.

Arts Education

Our commitment to arts education is driven by research that found that learners can attain higher levels of achievement through their engagement with the arts. Moreover, one of the critical research findings is that the learning in and through the arts can help “level the playing field” for youngsters from disadvantaged circumstances. Through our arts education partnership with Rye Arts Center, Clay Arts of Port Chester and Manhattanville College, we offer weekly courses in guitar, pottery instruction, and dance.
