We use textbooks and other materials recommended professionals. We have a retired ESL professor periodically supervising instruction, providing feedback, and conducting workshops for the teachers.<\/p>\n<p>At Don Bosco\u2019s ESL Program, we value the small group approach, because ESL learners hear each other speak and see each other learn and struggle. They can assist one another as needed. A one on one approach is used for \u201cbeginners\u201d or GED\/citizenship learners.<\/p>\n<p>ESL welcomes Twenty-two to twenty-four learners per session, Mondays \u2013 Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:00, with ten to fifteen teachers. We have eighty active members and thirty active teachers.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator el_width=&#8221;50&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><em>The Read Aloud Program<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFrom your parents you learn love and laughter and how to put one foot in front of another. But when books are opened you discover you have wings.\u201d<br \/>\n-Helen Hayes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In collaboration with Resurrection Church in Rye NY, The Read Aloud Program, provides teen mentors to support the oral literacy skills for children age\u2019s 5-8. Teen mentors model a love of reading and foster good reading habits through encouragement and support of young readers. Each week, every child receives a new book to read with their mentor and gets to take the book home to read again with their family.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator el_width=&#8221;50&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><em>The Early Childhood Bilingual (ECB) Program<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.<br \/>\n-Frank Smith<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Purpose and Mission:<br \/>\nThe Early Childhood Bilingual Program helps to prepare three- to four-year-old Hispanic children with the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in two languages, Spanish and English.<\/p>\n<p>State Standards:<br \/>\nThe Early Childhood Bilingual Program\u2019s curriculum and instruction are based on the New York State Early Learning Guidelines and New York State Bilingual Common Core Initiative\u2019s Language Progressions for Home (Spanish) and New (English) Languages.
