Kids Cafe and Wellness

Don Bosco Kids Cafe serves nutritious hot suppers, Tuesday through Friday, and lunch on Saturdays. More than 9,400 meals were prepared in our professional kitchen and served to our Boys and Girls Club members in the 2015/2016 school year.

Educating our children in healthy eating is also done through monthly nutrition classes at our Boys and Girl’s Club in partnership with the Food Bank For Westchester.

Childhood Hunger in America and Westchester County

-22 % of children under the age of 18 live in poverty in America.

-16 million children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food. That’s 1 out of 5 kids.

-85% of low-income families want to make healthy meals at home for their kids, but only 50% are able to do so most nights of the week due to the perceived cost of healthy groceries.

-Research confirms that the academic performance of children in school is directly reflected by healthy eating and adequate access to food.

-Among Westchester County residents, 1 out of 5 are hungry or at risk of hunger. One-third of the members of households served by the Food Bank For Westchester are children under the age of 18.
